Morlock, Matthew Jr.

-

— Matthew Morlock Jr., 89, passed away peacefully after a short illness on Tuesday, March 22, 2022. He died at home, where he wanted to be, with his daughter Patty by his side.

He was born to Caroline (Beaver) and Matthew Morlock on January 29, 1933, in Schenectady. Matthew was predeceased by the love of his life, Nancy Rita Thibodeau Morlock, who he was married to for 59 years prior to her passing.

He was a 1951 graduate of Nott Terrace High School. Prior, he was at Central PK Junior High and Halsey Elementary School. During his high school years, he worked at the Schenectady Paper box factory. Upon graduating from high school, he went to Union College graduating in 1958. During his college years, Matt was drafted into the Army, serving in the Korean War from 1953 to 1955, stationed in Germany. He would tell us he was a trained killer, of course he ended up working as a Klinger/Radar and could "kill" with his typewriter. He loved to tell that story. Upon returning from the war, he graduated with a teaching degree. On graduation he worked for Manpower until he landed a job at Albany High School as an assistant principle in 1964. Wanting to spend more time with his family, he left to teach at Livingston Middle School, teaching eigth grade social studies until his retirement in 1989.

He loved spending time with his family. For years he took his family on two vacations every summer, as his kids called it, one fun vacation and one educational. We always thanked him for making the educational one short. Matt loved to bowl with his friends. He loved to share his love of baseball and was an avid Detroit Tigers fan. Dad also enjoyed football and was a Detroit Lions fan. Matt also loved reading and watching TV with his wife; and telling tons of childhood stories. He also had a larger-than-life infectious laugh.

Matt is survived by his children, Dan Morlock, and Patricia (Jay) Rice; his pride and joy, his granddaughter, Meaghan Rice; his greatgrandson, Spencer Francis Matthew Rice; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends. Along with his wife, he was predeceased by his sister, Mary Morlock.

The family would like to thank Albany Medical Center’s E.R. and C.C.U. for their wonderful care of Matthew (I wish I could name them all), and St. Peter’s Hospice for letting us bring him home so quickly and taking care of everything. I can’t say enough how much that meant to Matt and his daughter. Dad wanted to die at home, and they made it happen. We would also like to thank family and friends for all their support through this time.

The family would like to invite family and friends to celebrate Matthew’s life at the Watervliet Elks, 501 4th Ave., Watervliet on Saturday, March 26, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

If you wish to make a donation please make one to St. Peter’s Hospice, 310 S. Manning Blvd., Albany, NY, 12208 or Eddy VNRA Kathy Buffaline Fund, 433 River St., Troy, NY, 12180 in Matthew’s name.
