Danes win one on the road

UAlbany outscores UMass Lowell to go to 2-1 in league

The University at Albany earned its first road win of the season, edging host UMass Lowell 13-12 on Saturday in an America East Conference men’s lacrosse matchup.

The Great Danes trailed 6-5 at halftime before outscoring the rival River Hawks 5-2 in the third to take a 10-8 lead and control of the game. UMass Lowell pulled within a goal, 11-10, with 8 minutes, 26 seconds left in the fourth but UAlbany’s Corey Yunker scored twice in the next 1:08 to give the Great Danes some breathing room.

The River Hawks added two more goals to make it 13-12 with 1:16 remaining but could not find an equalizer despite hitting the goal post twice in the final seconds.

Yunker closed with five goals and an assist and Camden Hay added two goals and four assists for UAlbany. The Great Danes, who improved to 3-5 and 2-1 in the America East, are now 1-4 on the road this season.

Conor Foley scored four goals and Domenic Giachello had four assists to lead UMass Lowell, which fell to 1-8 and 1-2 in conference play.

UAlbany plays host to Syracuse at 7 p.m. Thursday.
