Caroga Arts wins $1 million grant
Funding will be used to build amphitheater at Sherman’s Park on lake
Caroga Arts will receive $1 million toward its capital campaign for the construction of a new, state of the art amphitheater at Sherman’s Park on this mountain lake.
The amphitheater is the first phase of a larger master plan that includes the restoration and renovation of the existing main building, carousel, bumper car pavilion, and Ferris wheel, founder and Artistic Director Kyle Price said. Caroga Arts will work with historic preservation architect LTRW and Consigli Construction Co., Price said.
The funding was announced last week by the New York State Council on the Arts, along with several other grant recipients.
The amphitheater in Sherman’s
Park will provide superb acoustics and be able to accommodate an 80-person orchestra and a stage house that will provide backstage support, the organization said.
When creating the design, Lacey Thaler Reilly Wilson Architecture & Preservation celebrated the views of the lake and Adirondack foothills, creating a warm, wood design that incorporates classical style elements with a sleek, contemporary, elegant form, according to a statement this week from the venue.
“We look forward to sharing updated renderings and information about the capital campaign for the first phase of both Sherman’s and Myhill properties,” Price said.
Additional renderings, project details, and information about the capital campaign will be released later this spring.
