McNeely helps Siena end skid
Saints victory tags 1st-place Stags with first MAAC loss
The Siena women’s lacrosse team stopped its two-game losing skid with a 16-11 victory over visiting Fairfield on Saturday in Loudonville.
The victory not only put the Saints on the plus side, 3-2, in the MAAC standings but also gave the first-place Stags their first league loss of season to put them at 3-1.
Siena wasted little time grabbing control of the game, jumping out to a 7-3 lead keyed by three goals apiece by Mary Soures and Nicole McNeely at the end of the first quarter. The Saints never trailed from there and coasted to the finish line to pick up the win.
McNeely closed with a game-high 10 points, including six goals and four assists, and Soures had six goals to lead Siena, which also climbed to an even 7-7 overall on the season.
Elizabeth Talluto scored five goals to lead Fairfield, which dipped to 8-4 overall and had its four-game winning streak snapped.
The Saints head to Hamden, Conn., on Wednesday to take on Quinnipiac.
