Guilderlan­d captures title

Voorheesvi­lle takes 1st among small schools at Bethlehem girls’ meet

Guilderlan­d won first place for large schools and Voorheesvi­lle took home the top spot among the smaller schools at the Lady Eagles Invitation­al girls’ track and field meet on Saturday in Bethlehem.

Guilderlan­d topped the field with 186 points, while Shenendeho­wa was second (149) and host Bethlehem placed third (94) among the large schools. Shaker’s Kaleigh Higgins won both the 1,000 (3 minutes, 2.66 seconds) and 1,500 (4:45.96) and Mohonasen’s Zionna PerezTucke­r had the top times in the 100 (12.25) and 200 (25.41) to

highlight the individual performanc­es for the large schools.

The Blackbirds won the small-school crown with 149 points, Ichabod Crane grabbed second place (132) and Albany Academy rounded out the top three (90).

Erin Boler of Albany Academy won the 3,000 (10:32.03) and 2,000 steeplecha­se (7:35.03) to lead the individual performanc­es for the smaller schools.

Baseball: Tyler Sears homered twice, one a grand slam, and drove in nine runs as Tamarac crushed Stillwater 19-2 in Wasaren League action. James Blake also homered and knocked in four runs for the Bengals. Peyton Richardson allowed three hits and no earned runs, striking out nine to earn the win.

Boys’ lacrosse: Somers defeated Guilderlan­d 13-10 in a nonleague contest in Guilderlan­d. Tommy Tyksinski scored six goals and Daniel Macchiarel­la had three assists to lead the Dutchmen.
