Hearing on forest initiative planned
Schenectady effort designed to properly manage trees in city
The Community Forest Management Plan, meant to provide a blueprint to maintain, protect, and enhance Schenectady’s community forest will get an airing later this month.
“We look forward to hearing from the community as we roll out this comprehensive plan to create a healthy and sustainable community forest that is properly managed and cared for, benefiting all of Schenectady’s residents,” said Mayor Gary McCarthy.
The draft is available for the public to view on the city of Schenectady website. A public meeting to discuss the draft of the plan will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 26 at the Mont Pleasant Public Library.
The city received an Urban and Community Forestry grant of $61,200 from the state Department of Environmental Conservation recently.
It is designed to create a citywide tree inventory and community forest management plan to improve the community’s urban forest.
“It is our goal that these efforts will have a lasting impact on the health and vibrancy of our neighborhoods for generations to come,” McCarthy said.
