Capital District YMCA rebounding from pandemic
The past two years have presented enormous challenges for the Capital District YMCA. Once a $45-million-ayear organization, effects from the COVID-19 pandemic have cut our annual budget in half. Hard financial decisions were made, cutting staff and permanently closing our Duanesburg facility.
During the lockdown and financial challenges, the CDYMCA never stopped serving our community. From providing child care to 1,600 children of essential workers to distributing almost 1.4 million pounds of food, we worked endlessly to support the Capital Region during a time of crisis and uncertainty. Last year alone, we provided more than $800,000 scholarships for camp, child care and programs.
We are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Our Troy and Schenectady facilities are reopening May 1. All facilities will be open seven days a week again.
We are working closely with the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants to provide wellness programming and services to refugees in the Capital Region. We are providing childcare to thousands of children through early childhood learning, after-school programs, and camp.
We are bringing back programs like our Black and Latino Achievers program, helping high school students develop skills, raise academic standards, graduate and focus on career goals.
We are more than a gym and swim. Membership to the CDYMCA means an investment in our community to make the Capital Region an even better place to live.
