Metzger, Frederick J.
LATHAM — Frederick J. Metzger was born on July 19, 1946, to Gerald Metzger and Mary Metzger (Brigger). He passed away suddenly on April 17, 2022, at the age of 75.
He led an adventurous life, enlisting in the Air Force at an early age and traveling to locations across the globe. One of his most notable expeditions was to the Philippines during the Ruby Tower Collapse, wherein he aided the Phillipine Government and President Marcos in searching for survivors amongst the rubble. He earned a medal commemorating his service to the Philippines during that time and had the opportunity to dine with President Marcos and his wife.
Upon returning to the states, he began a family and then started his land surveyor business. He ran the business successfully for nearly four decades and turned the reigns over to his son, Frederick J. Metzger Jr., upon his retirement.
He is survived by his three children, Frederick J children, Frederick J Metzger Jr. of Latham, Jeri Metzger of Houston, Texas and Michael Metzger of Round Lake. Also surviving him are his sister, Barbara Hill; two granddaughters, Sophia Michele Metzger and Abagael Emelia Metzger, as well as two nieces and nephews.
His memory lives on with us all, as with anyone who had the pleasure of encountering him. His willingness to help was only shadowed by his infectious smile and laughter. His iron-will and drive to lead a meaningful life is an inspiration to all of those he left here on earth.
Services will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Visiting hours are on Thursday, May 5, from 4 - 6 p.m. Family and friends will gather at the funeral home on Friday at 9 a.m., with a procession leaving at 10 a.m. for interment in Memory Gardens Cemetery, 983 Watervliet Shaker Rd., Albany.
