GLENMONT — John Sypek, 65 of Glenmont, passed away suddenly at his home on Tuesday, May 3, 2022.

John was born in Czestochowa, Poland to Maria and Tadeusz Sypek on October 16, 1956. He came to the United States with his parents at the age of 12. John graduated from Red Hook High School in 1974, and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in history from Bard College in 1979 where he was a star tennis player and coach. John moved back to Poland in 1982 where he met his wife Dorota and they married in 1985. He later made his career back in New York, working in real estate. John was a loving husband, father, son and friend to many. He loved hiking, skiing, reading, cooking and working around the house. An avid bird watcher, John and his wife Dorota frequently walked at Five Rivers where he could identify every species they saw. They also loved watching Jeopardy together in which John impressively knew almost every answer. He had a wonderful sense of humor, could always make people laugh, and would help anyone with anything at a moment’s notice.

John is survived by his loving wife, Dorota; his sons, Paul and Alex; his parents, Maria and Tadeusz; and his beloved dog, Bodhi. He is missed deeply by everyone that he impacted. As a dear friend said, "He was the best person I’ve ever known." Many willingly agree.

Friends are invited to visit with John’s family on Wednesday, May 11, from 4 - 7 p.m. at the Reilly & Son Funeral Home, Voorheesville. A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, May 12, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Place, Delmar.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to www.samaritanspurse.org/ ukraine or www.caritas.pl/ ukraine or www. mohawkhumane.org
