LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Late favorite Olympiad, trained by Bill Mott, surged past Caddo River entering the final turn and pulled away in the stretch to win the $750,000 Stephen Foster by 2 1 ⁄4 lengths over American-revolution at Churchill Downs and automatically qualify for this fall’s Breeders’ Cup Classic.

Michael Vick is being sued in Broward County by creditors who want him to repay loans of $692,000 from at least four years ago in Maryland. Lawyers for the plaintiffs say they want Vick at a deposition Aug. 5 to list his assets so his creditors can collect. Vick’s lawyer, Arthur Jones, asserted that the plaintiffs are misrepresenting how much Vick owes.

Anthony Duclair had surgery to repair an Achilles tendon injury and is expected to miss significant time next season, possibly returning by midseason. The 26-year-old injured his left Achilles tendon in offseason training . ... The Winnipeg Jets are closing in on Rick Bowness as their head coach. A Jets spokesman said while nothing was finalized, the 67-year-old Bowness “is the person we’re focusing on as our next head coach.” Bowness led Dallas to the 2020 Stanley Cup Final. Cycling: Rider Alejandro Valverde will spend a night under observation in the hospital after he and another unnamed cyclist were hit by a car while training in southern Spain.
