After tallying 10 assists through Union’s first 17 games, first-year defenseman John Prokop made his first career collegiate goal count on Friday when scoring the game winner against visiting New Hampshire. On Saturday afternoon, he started right where he left off, scoring his second career goal to help the Dutchmen on their way to a second consecutive victory over the visiting Wildcats, 3-2 at Messa Rink in Schenectady.

Prokop found the back of the net for the second time in as many games at the 2:34 mark of the first period, off an assist from Matt Allen. It started the Dutchmen’s first-period barrage, with Liam Robertson and Mason Snell adding to the total to put Union up 3-0 after the first 20 minutes.

The Wildcats’ Liam Devlin brought New Hampshire to within one with a pair of goals in the second period, the first on a power play at the 11:03 mark. He scored his second two-anda-half minutes later, but a stout Union defense led by goalie Kyle Chauvette kept the Wildcats off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game.

The Dutchmen once again struggled to get shots, but made them count. New Hampshire outshot Union, 36-10, including a 13-1 advantage in the second period.

Union only managed three shots in the final 20 minutes to New Hampshire’s 10 on goal, but Chauvette and the Union defense held firm to help boost the Dutchmen’s record to 8-10-1. New Hampshire fell to 4-16-1 with the loss.

The Dutchmen return to ECAC Hockey action next weekend, with a pair of home games against Cornell and Colgate. Union hosts the Big Red at 7 p.m. on Friday at Messa Rink, while the Raiders visit at 4 p.m. next Saturday afternoon.
