Carey carries Shen girls to ‘W’

The Shenendeho­wa girls’ basketball team improved its record to 8-1 on the season with a 72-68 win over Fairport on Saturday afternoon in a nonleague contest at CiceroNort­h Syracuse High School.

The Plainsmen raced to a 22-14 advantage at the end of the first quarter and held off a late Fairport charge to earn the victory.

Bri Carey had a gamehigh 23 points, including five 3-pointers, and Kaleigh Montanez chipped in with 21 points to lead Shenendeho­wa.

More girls’ basketball: Holy Names escaped its nonleague clash against winless Troy with a 54-50 victory. Sophia Bologna once again led the Holy Names offense, dropping in a gamehigh 26 points. Holy Names improved to 10-3. Kate Gilooly had 15 points to lead the Flying Horses, who fell to 0-11 . ... Hudson Falls coasted past visiting

Cambridge 50-33 in another nonleague contest. Seneca Williamson scored 12 points and Mya Nolan added 10 points to lead the Tigers (7-5) while Schuylar Nolan had a team-best 10 points for Cambridge (7-4) . ... Greenwich kept its perfect record intact with a 66-38 nonleague win against Schenectad­y. Adrianna Rojas scored 21 points to pace the Witches, who are 13-0.

Boys’ basketball: Colonie defeated La Salle 58-50 in a nonleague game at Colonie. Trey Owens-Cody scored 17 points and Julius Reed chipped in with 15 points for the Garnet Raiders. Jason Bradwell Jr. had 15 points and Davon Maloney added 13 points for the Cadets . ... Albany Academy held Shaker to just two points in the second quarter on the way to a 52-46 win in Latham. The Cadets trailed 13-8 after the first quarter but the defense took control in the second to help Albany Academy pick up the victory. Robert Chandler scored 14 points to lead the Cadets . ... Hunter Ingram scored 33 points for Argyle, but it wasn’t enough as the Scots lost to Harrisvill­e 71-65 in a nonleague game. Tanner Sullivan had 25 points for Harrisvill­e.
