Bills: Experts to advise Hamlin

PHOENIX — The Buffalo Bills and their medical staff are arranging for safety Damar Hamlin to receive additional opinions from experts to assist him in deciding on whether to resume his football career, the NFL’s chief medical officer said.

Allen Sills said that he does not know at this point if Hamlin, 24, will seek to play football again after being resuscitat­ed by medical personnel during a Jan. 2 game in Cincinnati.

Adam beats Rays in arbitratio­n

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Reliever Jason Adam beat Tampa Bay in arbitratio­n, getting $1.775 million instead of the team’s $1.55 million offer.

Adam was 2-3 with a career-low 1.56 ERA and a career-best eight saves in 67 relief appearance­s last season, striking out 75 and walking 17 in 631⁄3 innings when he earned $1.15 million.

Baffert’s Newgate off Derby trail

ARCADIA, Calif. — One of trainer Bob Baffert’s promising 3-year-old colts is off the Kentucky Derby trail.

Newgate will be out of training for at least two months after being diagnosed with a minor hock issue, an area on the back of a horse’s leg.

Hit Show wins Derby prep

NEW YORK — Hit Show won the $250,000 Withers Stakes by 51⁄2 lengths in the Kentucky Derby prep at Aqueduct on Saturday.

Ridden by Manny Franco, Hit Show paid $4.60 to win as the 6-5 favorite, earning 20 qualifying points for the Kentucky Derby and third place on the leaderboar­d for the May 6 race. Trained by Brad Cox, Hit Show earned the first stakes victory of his career.

Arctic Arrogance was second and General Banker was third.

Mabrey to Sky in four-team deal

The Chicago Sky acquired Marina Mabrey as part of a four-team deal with the New York Liberty, Dallas Wings and Phoenix Mercury. The Sky also received the Mercury’s secondroun­d draft pick next year.

The Wings, who gave up Mabrey, received Diamond DeShields from Phoenix as well as Chicago’s firstround picks the next two seasons.

New York gave up 2021 Rookie of the Year Michaela Onyenwere to Phoenix and received the rights to Leonie Fiebich from Chicago as well the Sky’s second-round pick. The Liberty also have the chance to swap first-round picks with Phoenix in 2025.

Phoenix also received Chicago’s third-round pick as well as the Sky’s second round pick in 2025.

RABAT, Morocco — Vinícius Júnior scored twice and assisted Karim Benzema to lead Real Madrid to its record-extending eighth Club World Cup title by beating Al-Hilal 5-3. Federico Valverde added two more goals for the European champions.

Miura and Kihara win skating title

Riku Miura and Ryuichi Kihara became the first Japanese pairs skaters to win the Four Continents Figure Skating Championsh­ips. They scored 137.05 points in the free skate for a total of 208.24, to easily outdistanc­e the American team of Emily Chan and Spencer Akira Howe.
