Greenwich girls clinch league title

Greenwich won its 33rd straight league game and clinched its second consecutiv­e Wasaren League title by beating Tamarac 48-36 in a girls’ basketball game on Saturday in Hoosic Valley.

Brooke Kuzmich led the Witches (20-0, 15-0) with 24 points, nine rebounds and five steals. Kuzmich scored 13 of Greenwich’s 19 points in the third quarter. Adrianna Rojas went 4-for-4 from the foul line in the fourth quarter and Cate Abate added four more down the stretch to seal the win.

Abbie Yetto led the Bengals (18-2) with 11 points.

More girls’ basketball: Oppenheim-St.Johnsville used a big third-quarter run to edge Canajohari­e 40-37 in WAC crossover action. Led by Brooke Trumble, who scored eight of her 13 points in the third quarter, the Wolves outscored the Cougars 18-2 to start the second half. Taylor Hayes added 11 points in the win. Megan Blakeslee scored eight of her 10 points in the third quarter to rally Canajohari­e. ... Hudson Falls coasted to a 57-14 win against Johnstown in their Foothills Showcase matchup. Seneca Williamson poured in 26 points to pace Hudson Falls.

Boys’ basketball: South Glens Falls got the Foothills Council Showcase rolling with a 76-61 victory over Scotia in the day’s first game at Washington Avenue Armory. The Tartans held a slim 23-22 halftime advantage but the Bulldogs outscored Scotia 27-12 in the third to take control. Brady Smith scored a game-high 23 points and Landon Casey added 16 points to lead South Glens Falls. Eddie Bradt had a team-best 15 points for the Tartans . ... Colton Christense­n scored a game-high 28 points to spark Oppenheim-St. Johnsville to a 64-37 win over Middleburg­h in the first round of the Western Athletic Conference tournament. Troy Cammer led Middleburg­h with 19 points . ... Ollie Owens and Henry Perkins combined for 28 points to lead Green Tech to a 59-43 nonleague win over Poughkeeps­ie. Perkins scored six points in the third quarter when Green Tech began to pull away by outscoring Poughkeeps­ie 19-10 in the quarter . ... Fort Plain rallied past Canajohari­e 53-46 in another WAC matchup. The Cougars led 35-33 heading into the final quarter but the Hilltopper­s outscored Canajohari­e 20-11 in the fourth to pick up the win. Cam David and Stephen Gray each scored 15 points to lead the Fort Plain offense. Zachary Herget had a game-high 18 points for the Cougars.
