-

Laura Bonomo scored twice and Katy Wangsness also scored in a 3-0 third quarter as the Siena women’s lacrosse team broke open a close game in an 11-5 victory over visiting Binghamton on Saturday afternoon in Loudonville.

After Binghamton’s Olivia Muscolino opened the scoring a minute into the first quarter, the Saints’ fifth-year midfielder Mary Soures tied it at 1 on a free position shot with 12:13 remaining. Muscolino scored with 9:34 remaining to restore the Bearcats’ lead, but another free position shot by junior attack Rebecca Gilhooley leveled the score for Siena.

Redshirt sophomore Jordan Bentley, who was a three-year starter at Queensbury, scored to give the Saints their first lead of the game at 3-2 with 20 seconds remaining in the quarter.

Wangsness opened the scoring 43 seconds into the second quarter to put the Saints up 4-2 off an assist from sophomore attacker Kelly Logue. After Binghamton pulled back to within one with 4:33 remaining, Bonomo finished the opening-half scoring during a man-up opportunity off a feed from Gilhooley.

In the third, a goal by Wangsness, a senior attacker, off an assist by Logue gave the Saints a 6-3 lead. Bonomo, a junior defender, scored the next two goals and the Saints were on their way to the victory.

Logue led the Saints in scoring with two goals and three assists, while Wangsness and Bonomo each tallied three goals.

Sabrina Krasner finished with seven saves to lead the Saints, while the Bearcats’ Emily Manning had seven saves.

The Saints next travel to St. Bonaventure on Wednesday for a 1 p.m. showdown with the Bonnies. The Saints, who are 5-8 all-time against St. Bonaventure, haven’t played the Bonnies since an 18-6 victory in Olean in 2019. Siena has won five of the past six games against St. Bonaventure after losing the first seven in the series.
