Brantley spurs Cats’ second-half rally
Janay Brantley had a big second half to spark Catskill to a 60-49 win over Ichabod Crane in a Class B girls’ basketball sectional semifinal game Saturday in Averill Park.
Brantley scored 21 of her 34 points in the second half as the No. 2 Cats erased an eight-point halftime deficit. Brantley was 12-for-13 from the foul line in the game, 10-for-11 in the second half.
Carolina Williams scored 29 points for the third-seeded Riders and reached 1,000 for her career. Williams scored 17 in the first half to stake Ichabod Crane to a 28-20 lead at intermission.
More girls’ basketball: Mia Wylie’s driving layup with five seconds left gave Bishop Gibbons a 31-30 win over Northville in the Class D semifinals. Amanda Deitz scored seven of her team-high 13 points in the fourth quarter as the Knights outscored the Falcons 12-3 over the final eight minutes to get the win. Wylie added 12 points in the win. Hailey Monroe paced Northville with 14 points. Bishop Gibbons will face No. 4 Hartford in the final at 6 p.m. Thursday at Hudson Valley Community College . ... Saige Randolph scored 17 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and had four steals to lead Albany Academy to a 72-47 win over Schalmont in the Class B semifinals. The Bears will face Catskill in the final. Eva Gitto and Bella Vincent added 12 points apiece for Albany Academy (22-1). Karissa Antoine led the Sabres with 30 points.
Boys’ basketball: Hunter Ingram scored 20 points and Brandon Saunders added 13 as Argyle topped Germantown 55-41 in the Class D quarterfinals. The Scots outscored the Clippers 25-11 in the second quarter to take control of the game. Mason Ferrer (18 points) and Kyan Anderson combined to score 31 for Germantown . ... Tamarac pulled away in the second half for an 83-58 win over Schuylerville in the Class B quarterfinals. Lukas Sherman of Schuylerville reached 1,000 points for his career in the loss . ... No. 1 Catholic Central erased an early 14-point deficit by the second quarter and cruised from there to a 73-50 win over Ichabod Crane in the Class B quarterfinals.
