Suspect arrested after shots fired at CDTA bus in Troy
TROY — A CDTA bus traveling on Second Avenue early Saturday morning was fired at in what is believed to be a targeted shooting by a suspect taken into custody on outstanding warrants, city police said.
The incident occurred about 1:30 a.m. Officers responded to a 911 call of shots fired in the vicinity of 114th and 115th streets, Deputy Chief Steve Barker said.
The Capital District Transportation Authority bus sustained damage but no occupants were injured, Barker said in a written statement. The bus was traveling south on Second Avenue.
A multi-family residence on Second Avenue became of interest to officers who put up a perimeter in the area and were provided information by residents who had witnessed the shooting, Barker said.
A man, 30, fled the residence but was captured outside by officers and detectives, Barker said. He was arrested on the outstanding warrants and charged with drug possession and obstructing governmental administration, the deputy chief said.
As part of the continuing investigation, detectives obtained a search warrant and found a handgun in the residence.
The investigation will continue to determine if the seized handgun was involved in the incident and to determine the person responsible for the shots fired incident, said Barker, who expressed appreciation for the involvement of community members at the scene who provided information “imperative to the investigation.”
