SEATTLE — Bobby Wagner is headed back to the Seattle Seahawks after agreeing to a one-year deal Saturday to rejoin the team with which he became one of the top linebackers in the NFL, according to a person with knowledge of the deal.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity because the team didn’t announce the agreement. Seattle teammates Quandre Diggs and Tyler Lockett first broke the news on Twitter, and NFL Network and ESPN said the deal was worth up to $7 million.

Wagner spent the first 10 seasons of his career with the Seahawks after being selected in the second round of the 2012 draft by Seattle. He became a six-time first-team All-Pro selection during his tenure in Seattle, where he was regularly regarded as one of the best middle linebackers in the league.

Wagner was released by Seattle just over a year ago in a salary cap move. Wagner was due nearly $17 million and the Seahawks wanted to give Jordyn Brooks the opportunity to step into the middle linebacker role.

But Brooks suffered a torn ACL late last season and is expected to miss a significant chunk of the 2023 season.

49ers: San Francisco has found its potential replacement for longtime kicker Robbie Gould after agreeing to acquire Zane Gonzalez from the Carolina Panthers late on Friday. The teams will exchange a conditional swap of late-round picks in the 2025 draft to complete the deal, which will be finalized once Gonzalez passes a physical. Carolina re-signed kicker Eddy Piñeiro on Thursday and planned to release Gonzalez before reaching the deal with San Francisco. The Niners had been seeking a kicker since deciding not to bring back Gould as a free agent.

Packers: Green Bay continued assisting its special-teams unit Saturday by re-signing linebacker Eric Wilson. Wilson had 13 special-teams tackles last season to tie Dallin Leavitt for the team lead. He played 13 games for the Packers, who signed him off the New Orleans Saints’ practice squad on Oct. 4. The 28-year-old Wilson also recorded one sack on defense.
