Double H Ranch projects include lodge, playground

Fundraising effort secures $5M for its capital campaign

- Staff report

LAKE LUZERNE — The Double H Ranch has secured $5 million of its $5.5 million capital campaign for a project to support a new residential lodge, adaptive playground, outdoor pavilion expansion and Camp-A-Theater.

Lisa and Robert Moser launched the campaign with a $1.5 million leadership gift. Neil Golub, co-chair of the campaign, provided a $1 million challenge, matching gifts made by board members and early stakeholders.

In a news release last week, the ranch said that it has provided outdoor Adirondack adventures for more than 80,000 children living with a serious illness for more than 30 years.

The campaign will secure funds to ensure “a continued experience of excellence” for children and their families who participate in the yearround programs at camp, provided at no charge.

The new Circle H Residential Lodge will offer yearround housing and help build program capacity. It will have 22 rooms with private bathrooms to accommodate 44 volunteers and counselors. It will also have kitchenettes, laundry and common spaces inside and outdoors.

The pavilion will double in size to accommodate outdoor cabin gatherings, meals and activities.

The Camp-A-Theater will be in the heart of camp and provide a large, outdoor gathering space for campers and counselors to congregate for morning assembly and talent shows. The “RayMax Camp-A-Theater” will be named for Max Yurenda, founding CEO, and Dr. Ray Walsh, founding volunteer physician.

The playground will be customized to the needs of campers from KOMPAN’s Playground Equipment Co. It has been supported through a gift from Business for Good and Lisa and Ed Mitzen. Elements will include graduated challenges and will give campers a space to engage with peers, participate in meaningful play and build confidence in their skills.

The pavilion expansion will begin this spring, Circle H residential cabin and adaptive playground this fall and CampA-Theater in fall 2024.
