Tamarac topples Shaker in 10 innings to stay unbeaten

Tamarac kept its perfect record intact with a 3-2 win over Shaker in 10 innings on Saturday in a nonleague softball contest.

Toni DeLorenzo’s RBI single in the top of the 10th inning broke a 2-2 deadlock and moved the Bengals to 4-0 on the season. Moira Collins pitched 10 strong innings to earn the victory, allowing just two hits while striking out nine for Tamarac.

Hannah Hipwell tossed 10 solid innings for Shaker as well. Hipwell allowed six hits and a walk with seven strikeouts for the Blue Bison. More softball: Ichabod Crane and Burnt Hills had their own pitchers’ duel with the Riders coming out on top 1-0. Kari Graziano threw a one-hit shutout, striking out 15 along the way, to pick up the win for Ichabod Crane. Meredith Garafalo provided all the offense with a solo home run in the first inning for the Riders. The homer was the only blemish on Katie Rhodes’ performanc­e for the Spartans. Rhodes gave up just three hits and fanned 13 in her seven innings of work.

Baseball: Alex Halwick slugged his first career varsity home run to help Ravena get past Albany 7-4 in a nonleague game. Halwick finished the day 2-for-3 with his homer, three RBIs, a walk and two runs scored to pace the Indians . ... Taconic Hills improved to 5-1 on the season with a 13-5 victory over Greenwich in more nonleague action. The Titans used a five-run second inning to coast to the victory. Boys’ lacrosse: Columbia defeated host Minisink Valley 9-5 in a nonleague game shortened due to lightning in the area. Anthony McLaughlin scored three goals and Tanner Malone had a goal and two assists to lead the Blue Devils. Nick Kennedy scored three goals for Minisink Valley.
