Siena men advance to MAAC semifinal

The Siena men’s lacrosse team advanced to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference’s semifinal round thanks to a 13-11 quarterfin­al win over visiting Sacred Heart on Saturday in Loudonvill­e.

The Saints trailed 7-5 at the close of the first quarter but used a four-goal run to take control of the game in the second. After Pratt Reynolds’ goal, Zac Schuette tied the game with 13 minutes, 13 seconds left before the halftime break.

George Rusnak put Siena in front for good just more than a minute later and Christian Watts capped the run at 8:02 to make it 9-7 in favor of the Saints.

Morgan Reilly’s goal put the Pioneers within one, 10-9, in the third but Reynolds and Schuette answered to help Siena keep the lead and pull away for the win.

The Saints, who are the fourth seed, will travel to take on either top-seeded Manhattan or second-seeded Mount St. Mary’s on Thursday in the semifinal round.

Binghamton 15, UAlbany 14:

Binghamton edged the UAlbany men’s lacrosse squad in the regular-season finale for both schools. Binghamton held a 15-11 lead with 11:19 to go in the fourth before the Great Danes rallied with three unanswered goals to pull within one with 1:15 remaining. UAlbany’s offense continued to push but Declan Palandjian’s shot with two seconds left was wide of the net and the final gun sounded with the Great Danes falling a goal short. TJ Sheehan finished with three goals and three assists to lead UAlbany, which closes the regular season at 5-9. The Great Danes head to Burlington, Vt., on Thursday to battle rival Vermont in the America East semifinals.

The Great Danes women’s lacrosse team kept its perfect America East Conference record intact with a victory in Smithfield, R.I., on Saturday. Courtney Rowe snapped a 9-9 deadlock and Bryar Hogg added an important insurance goal, which proved to be the game winner, in the fourth quarter to help UAlbany improve to 10-6 but more importantl­y 6-0 in league play to close out the regular season. Hogg finished with four goals and two assists and Katie Pascale had six assists to lead the Great Danes. Top-seeded UAlbany will host fourthseed­ed New Hampshire at 1 p.m. Friday in the America East semifinals.
