Glens Falls hot from 3, holds Cohoes to 11 points in 2nd half

TROY — The Glens Falls boys’ basketball team is a squad fostering big-time aspiration­s this season. Saturday afternoon, the Black Bears showed why they are legitimate contenders for both the Foothills Council title and the Section II Class A championsh­ip in the newly formed six-classifica­tion system this winter.

Glens Falls did not struggle competing at the McDonough Sports Complex, scoring 29 points in the opening quarter against Cohoes and actually threatened to reach the century mark before settling for a 94-44 victory in the Evan Franz Memorial Coaches vs. Cancer event at Hudson Valley Community College.

All five starters reached double digits in points for Glens Falls (5-0 overall, 3-0 Foothills Council). The Black Bears successful­ly attacked the 2-3 zone employed by Cohoes (4-3, 2-2) and knocked down 12 3-pointers, including five in the opening quarter when Glens Falls opened up a 29-15 cushion.

“We have been shooting really well in our past games as well,” Glens Falls junior standout Kellen Driscoll said. “I think we can penetrate gaps in the zone. Everyone can shoot, so we find our shooters and hit 3s.”

“When you start off hitting some shots, everyone feels good,” Glens Falls junior guard Oscar Lilac said. “The better we feel, the better we play. We like playing in bigger venues with bigger crowds. I feel like the more people are here, the better we play.”

“I thought we moved the ball really well,” Glens Falls coach Rob Girard said. “I thought we settled early. We took open 3s, but I thought we could have gotten something a little bit better. When we started making the extra pass, two or three guys got set up and they started feeling
