Fleetwood surges into Dubai lead

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — Tommy Fleetwood surged into the lead of the Dubai Invitation­al after shooting an 8-under 63 in the third round to overtake Rory McIlroy by one stroke on Saturday. Fleetwood made eight birdies in a flawless round, including four on his first six holes, to move to 15-under 198.

WENGEN, Switzerlan­d — Marco Odermatt won another duel with Cyprien Sarrazin in a World Cup downhill that was marred by a serious crash for their biggest rival Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, who was airlifted to a hospital.

Kilde had lengthy treatment on his right leg while laying next to the finish line. Dominik Paris was third. winner again in a World Cup downhill and rose to fourth on the alltime list with 18 career wins in the marquee speed discipline. Stephanie Venier was second. Nicol Delago and Mirjam Puchner tied for third.

Only ski greats Lindsey Vonn, Annemarie Moser-Pröll and Renate Götschl have more women’s downhill wins in the World Cup circuit’s 67-year history. Vonn leads with 43.

HOBART, Australia — Secondseed­ed American Emma Navarro claimed her first WTA Tour title in her first final when she beat twotime champion, top-seeded Elise Mertens 6-1, 4-6, 7-5 to win the Hobart Internatio­nal. Navarro was ranked No. 149 this time last year but the New York born and based player now has risen to No. 31. Briton Jack Draper 4-6, 6-5, 6-3 in the final of the Adelaide Internatio­nal to win his first ATP Tour final. Saturday’s win will boost Lehecka’s ranking by nine places to 23.

No. 6 Jelena Ostapenko secured her seventh WTA tour title with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Daria Kasatkina.

KAUNAS, Lithuania — Loena Hendrickx’s wait for a major figure skating gold ended with a win at the European figure skating championsh­ips. Hendrickx won Belgium’s first European figure skating gold in 77 years over defending champ Anastasiia Gubanova of Georgia and Nina Pinzarrone of Belgium. Italy’s Charlene Guignard and Marco Fabbri repeated the ice dance title.
