Averill Park softball nips Ballston Spa in Suburban
Averill Park picked up its first Suburban Council win with a 6-3 decision over visiting Ballston Spa on Saturday in a softball clash.
Taylor Schoonmaker was 3for-3 with a triple and three runs scored and teammate Natalia Mancino went 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs to lead Averill Park, which improved to 3-2 overall and 1-2 in the Suburban.
Ballston Spa slipped to 1-1 overall and in league play. More softball: Shaker coasted past Albany 12-3 in another Suburban contest. Talyn Chernosky tossed seven innings, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out four, to get the win for Shaker. Tatum Possonno was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs to pace the Blue Bison, who used a five-run second inning to take control of the game . ... Host Saratoga Central Catholic topped Corinth 6-2 to win the Saratoga Central Catholic Tournament championship game. Hailey Ogneiwski went the distance, allowing only one earned run and fanning 10 to earn the win. Grace Schaefer provided the offense for the Saints, going 4-for-4 with a double, triple and two RBIs. Baseball: Guilderland rallied past Shenendehowa 5-4 in more Suburban Council action. The Plainsmen held a 4-1 lead after three innings but the Dutchmen scored two in the fifth and two in the seventh to escape with the win. Christian Walsh was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI and Evan Harbeck was 2-for-3 with a run scored and a walk for Guilderland. Brad Curtis had two doubles and an RBI to lead Shenendehowa . ... Fonda moved to 2-0 overall and in the Western Athletic Conference with a 19-0 win over Galway. Landon Hamlen was 2for-3 with a double and three RBIs for Fonda. Galway fell to 3-2 and 2-2.
