Ualbany hires Colleen Mullen to be head coach of the women’s basketball team.

ALBANY — Colleen Mullen has been named women’s basketball coach at the University at Albany.

The school announced the hiring on Monday and Mullen will be introduced Tuesday afternoon in a news conference at SEFCU Arena on campus. She joins the Great Danes from Army, where she spent seven seasons, the last six as associate head coach under Dave Magarity.

Mullen, who played Division I basketball at Rhode Island, takes over a program that won six straight America East championsh­ips under predecesso­rs Katie Abrahamson-henderson (now at Central Florida) and Joanna Bernabei-mcnamee (now at Boston College). cycling: egan Bernal unleashed a big kick that drove him clear of the pack as he rode into the overall leader’s jersey after the second stage of the Tour of California on Monday.

olympics: Japanese officials are being vague about the city of Sapporo’s bid to land the Winter Olympics. Sapporo Mayor katsuhiro akimoto and Tsunekazu Takeda, an IOC member and head of the Japanese Olympic Committee, met Monday in Tokyo to quell rumors that Sapporo was dropping out of bidding for the 2026 edition. But they described conditions that hinted that 2030 is better for the city’s planning.
