Columbia’s Burns sharp vs. Guilderlan­d

Pitcher strikes out 13 and goes 2-for-3 at plate in win

Columbia pitcher Maddie Burns didn’t have all 801 career strikeouts on Monday afternoon alone. It may have just felt that way to Guilderlan­d, which the Blue Devils defeated, 2-0.

Burns had 13 strikeouts and also went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI at the plate. Columbia scored its other run on one of five Guilderlan­d errors. Columbia improved to 15-4 on the season and 10-3 in Suburban Council play, while Guilderlan­d fell to 7-9 (6-7).

More softball: Hope Hiscock drew a game-ending walk in the eighth inning as Bishop Gibbons defeated mayfield, 3-2, to win the Western Athletic Conference title. baseball: Sam Smith threw a complete game and struck out seven batters in a 9-0 Central Hudson Valley League win against new Lebanon. Younger brother Henry Smith added a 2-for-3 hitting day (double, rbi) . ... James miller and nick Butler teamed on a no-hitter in a 9-1 Patroon League win for maple Hill over Green tech. Butler went six innings and had 11 strikeouts . ... Bethlehem pitcher Arlo marynczak had nine strikeouts to pick up a 3-1 Suburban Council win against Colonie. david Garcia chipped in with three rbis. Sal fusco had 11 strikeouts for Colonie.

... milton edmonds did it all for Greenville in a 6-1 Patroon Conference win against Coxsackie-athens, producing a 3-for-3 hitting performanc­e (three runs scored, as well) and also pitching all seven innings and striking out 11 in the 6-1 win . ... Josh touzin of rensselaer produced six rbis, including a first-inning grand slam, in a 14-4 CHVL win against new Lebanon . ... Cobleskill hurler Brennan Loder threw a 70-pitch complete game to beat Catholic Central, 2-0, in a Colonial Council game. He struck out three and walked none . ... Hoosic Valley held on to defeat tamarac, 7-6, in Wasaren League action. isaac Carlo (Hoosic Valley) and tristan nemjo (tamarac) each had two-run home runs.
