STILLWATER — Dorothy M. “Dot” Dennis of Brickyard Road, where she resided and raised her family since 1957, passed away on September 15, 2018, at Albany Medical Center with her loving family by her side. She was 84.

Born on October 4, 1933, in Mechanicvi­lle, to the late Bernard and Pauline (Szymkevicy Smith) Petronis Sr., Dot is the widow of John Dennis whom she married on May 8, 1954.

She was educated in the Saint Paul’s Catholic Schools and graduated from Mechanicvi­lle High School. Mrs. Oake’s Jewelry Store in Mechanicvi­lle was her first job. She learned how to be frugal with wrapping paper when wrapping gifts. She was the bookkeeper at her parents bar and inn, the Riverview Inn from 1944-1952. She was an executive secretary for General Electric and other various companies in the area throughout her career.

She loved bingo and visiting the Saratoga Racino. She was a very good bowler and an avid reader, reading five to ten books a week from the library. Dot and her husband were snowbirds for over 35 years in Port Charlotte, Fla.

Survivors include her three children, Michael Dennis of Stillwater, Deborah Dennis of Oakland, Calif. and Rob- ert and his wife, Tina Dennis of Stillwater. Her granddaugh­ter, Elizabeth Mitchell of Mechanicvi­lle; a brother, David (Cathy) Petronis of Mechanicvi­lle; her sisters, Marge (Bernie) Andrews of Las Vegas and Mary Cocozzo of Henrietta, N.Y. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, September 18, at the Chase-smith Family Funeral Home, 319 Park Avenue in Mechanicvi­lle.

Calling hours will be held prior to the funeral service on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be private in St. Peter’s Cemetery in the family plot.
