SCHODACK — Marjory M. Laymond, 85, died September 17, 2018, at her home surrounded by her family. Born in Colonie, she was the daughter of the late Charles Sterling and Marion Brind Sterling. Marjory lived in the East Greenbush, Schodack area for most of her life.

In the 1950’s, she worked as a model for Albany’s downtown department stores such as Flah’s and others and participat­ed in fashion shows at the Palace Theatre. From 1952-58 she worked in the office of O’hanlon Investigat­ions. After her children were born, she devoted herself to being a full-time mom. Marjory was very involved in her community and used her artistic talents to help decorate events such as Columbia High School’s annual Pops Concerts, the East Greenbush Bicentenni­al Ball and parades, advertisin­g signs for the East Greenbush Little League, and signs and decorative musical “monsters” for her daughter’s Magic of Music Studio. She also wrote and illustrate­d a children’s book for her granddaugh­ter titled "There Goes Katie in a Rocketship". She also chronicled a book of stories about the history of her childhood hometown, the Village of Colonie, N.Y.

She served as a Sunday school teacher of preschoole­rs and kindergart­ners for 17 years at the East Greenbush First United Methodist Church. Her work with children often extended beyond the Sunday school. She worked with the Albany United Methodist Society’s children’s tutoring ministry; led her students in adopting an elderly member of the congregati­on and raising funds for her custom wheel chair. For 10 years ran a children’s “mini-bazaar” to help children discover the joy of giving. Over 900 children participat­ed in her last bazaar. In the 70s, she served as president of the East Greenbush First United Methodist Church’s Woman’s Society and was active in the East Greenbush Music Parents Associatio­n.

Marjory was an avid gardener and enjoyed photograph­ing all the wildlife that frequented her feeders including deer, fox, birds, raccoons, hedge hogs, turkeys and even a mother bear and her cubs! She was a wonderful mother and grandmothe­r who loved and supported her children and granddaugh­ters and always welcomed a houseful of their friends.

She was predecease­d by her loving husband of 45 years, Robert F. Laymond, who was her childhood sweetheart; and her brothers and sister, Charles, Robert and Coralie Sterling. She is survived by her son, Randy Laymond, who served for many years as her caretaker; her daughter, Dawn Laymond Kolakoski and her husband, Charles Raderstorf; and her two granddaugh­ters, Kathryn Mcbain (Jaime) and Rebecca Kolakoski. She leaves behind 10 nieces and nephews, whom she adored-linda Lachanski, Jill Keyrouze, Gail Ferris, Gary Sterling, Mary Harvazinsk­i, Peggy Powers, Susan Decota, Steven Cox, and Mark and Bruce Sterling and their families. She also behind her dear friend, Eddie Kilgallon, whom she described as a “son to me since he was eight-years-old” and Robert Hall as “the best friend she’s ever had.” The family is most appreciati­ve of all the help Robert has given her over the years.

Relatives and friends are invited to her calling hours 4-7 p.m. Wednesday evening at the Rockefelle­r Funeral Home 165 Columbia Tpk Rensselaer. Funeral services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with burial following at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Guilderlan­d. She was always there for support and in time of need and she will always be remembered as the loving center of our family. Dorothy enjoyed music and she played the piano and organ and enjoyed singing. She loved camping, boating, water sking, sewing and doing anything that she could to help people along their way. She was always willing to give support, asking nothing in return. She had a funloving personalit­y and loved having fun in her relationsh­ip with friends. She wanted to be remembered as someone who always tried her best in anything that she chose to undertake. Dorothy was a member of the Bethlehem Senior Citizens, serving as a historian, the Delmar Fire Department Auxiliary, The Delmar Reformed Church and she was a Girl Scout troop leader.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Cheryl M. Krenn; son-in-law, David B.krenn; grandchild­ren, Jeffrey M. Krenn and Laura M. Taormina; greatgrand­daughter, Addison M. Taormina; and several nieces and nephews.

Dorothy’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Van Rensselaer Manor for their devoted care.

Friends may call Wednesday 12 to 2 p.m. with a service to follow at 2 p.m. at the Durant Funeral Home, 741 Delaware Ave. Delmar. Private interment in the Bethlehem Cemetery.

, , family to Schenectad­y. There he worked as plant supervisor at the former Campbell Plastics, retiring in 1985. Frank was an avid hunter, woodworker and chef extraordin­aire.

Besides Frank’s parents, he is predecease­d by his wife of 62 years, Santa J. (Seggio) Marino; his daughter, Nancy Marino Mcbath; and one grandson, Kevin Kane.

Frank leaves behind his children, Annette Kane, Nick Marino (Charlene) and Janet Endres (John); grandchild­ren, Colleen Indiano (Matt), Christophe­r Marino, Jamie Davenport (Josh) and Jessica Smith (Clinton); and his great-grandchild­ren, Madeline, Matthew and Victoria. He also leaves behind his son-in-law, Frank Mcbath; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday evening from 57 p.m. at the Demarco-stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave. in Rotterdam. Funeral services will begin Friday morning at the funeral home at 8:45 a.m. and will be followed by a funeral Mass in which Frank’s daughter, Nancy, will be honored as well at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish, 210 Princetown Road. Entombment will be in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery.
