Frontier launches schedule of Denver-albany nonstops
Discount carrier to add Orlando, Fort Myers routes before holidays
Airport fire trucks sprayed the traditional arc of water to welcome the first Frontier Airlines flight to Albany on Monday morning.
Frontier Flight 130, nonstop from Denver, arrived a few minutes behind schedule, then parked short of the gate for the welcoming spray before proceeding to its A concourse gate.
In the terminal, 152 passen-
gers were waiting to board the return flight, including Capital Region residents Pat and Tom Messina.
“We have family” in Denver, said Pat Messina. She and husband Tom previously drove to an airport outside Hartford to catch a Frontier flight to Denver. Now, with service from Albany, they’ll be making the trip “as often as we can,” said Tom.
Frontier will fly between Albany and Denver on Mondays and Fridays. It will begin nonstop flights to Orlando on Oct. 2, operating on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.
On Nov. 17, Frontier will begin offering flights to Fort Myers on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
The ultra-low fare carrier offers so-called a la carte pricing, where passengers pay for the features they want, including a seat reservation, checked bag, drinks and snacks. Other fare options also are available.
Another ultra-low fare carrier, Allegiant, announced plans last month to start serving three Florida cities nonstop from Albany, beginning flights in mid-december. Allegiant will serve the Orlando Sanford airport on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays beginning Dec. 13; Punta Gorda airport on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays also beginning Dec. 13, and St. Pete airport on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays beginning Dec. 12, according to its website, allegiant.com.
