Republicans can’t survive suppressing citizens’ will
I fear for the American Experiment.
How many times in history has a government of the minority, which shows utter contempt for the majority, been able to maintain control of a country and help the country prosper?
We are approaching a time here in America where the minority may control all three branches of government. This minority, the Republican Party, has elected an incompetent, mean-spirited president with a minority of the vote, and the approval of a smaller minority of the American people.
President Donald Trump and the Republican Congress have shown utter contempt for the American majority, using voter suppression, gerrymandering and fear to sway just enough of the minority to be elected to office. Once in office, they wield power mercilessly against the majority.
This brings us to the U.S. Supreme Court. Republicans are using their naked power to ram through a judge who is just as partisan as they are. This will change the Supreme Court for decades and will align all three branches of the government with the radical right or the minority.
Do the Republicans not know that they cannot survive longterm as a minority government that suppresses the will of the majority? Or do they not care for anything but short-term survival? History has not been kind to those in the minority who have suppressed their citizens’ voices. The same ending will eventually come to America, and it will not be pretty. America is watching.
