Glens Falls woman new Latham commander Soldiers advance
New York Army National Guard Maj. Amy Crounse of Glens Falls is the new commander of the 321 soldiers assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment of Joint Force Headquarters New York in Latham.
Crounse assumed command from Maj. Ashlee Coye during a ceremony. Coye has been assigned to the National Guard Bureau in Arlington, Va. Her company includes soldiers who work for the two-star general who commands the New York National Guard.
Crounse enlisted in the Army in 1993 as a signals intelligence specialist (linguist). In August 2004, she earned a direct commission as a second lieutenant in the New York Army National Guard as a Military Intelligence Corps officer.
In her most recent assignment, Crounse deployed with the 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team as part of the Joint Military Training Group in Ukraine, that provided training and mentoring to the Ukrainian armed forces. Prior to that she served as the deputy commander of the 2nd Civil Support Team (Weapons of Mass Destruction) in Scotia.
Crounse is on full-time Active Guard Reserve status with the Military Personnel Directorate. She holds a bachelor of science in organizational management from Nyack College. Batza of Watervliet has retired after 31 years of service. Batza was recognized during a retirement ceremony at Watervliet Arsenal.
Batza joined the New York Army National Guard in 1980. He served in the Army National Guard and Army Reserve until 1986. He left the service and re-enlisted in the New York Army National Guard in 1991. He joined the Active Guard and Reserve program in 2000. He served in a number of military personnel administrative positions, most recently as the noncommissioned officer in charge of the New York National Guard’s military personnel database.
He has earned a Meritorious Service Medal, an Army Commendation Medal and an Army Achievement Medal.
Christopher Giebel of Clifton Park has been promoted to major while serving with the New York Army National Guard’s Headquarters and Support Company, 42nd Infantry Division in Troy.
Matthew Williams of Ballston Spa was promoted to captain while serving with Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, 2nd Battalion, 101st Cavalry (Reconnaissance, Surveillance and Target Acquisition).
Priscilla Burnah of Waterford advanced to chief warrant officer 4 while on duty with Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, Recruiting and Retention Battalion.
Justin Leslie of Schenectady advanced to chief warrant officer 3 while on duty with Signal Company, 42nd Infantry Division.
Joshua Rowinski of Albany was promoted to chief warrant officer 3 while assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 42nd Combat Aviation Brigade.
Christopher Zacharakis of Saratoga Springs, advanced to first lieutenant while on duty with the Company G (Forward Support Company Infantry), 427th Brigade Support Battalion.
Manuel Pardo of Albany was promoted to first lieutenant while assigned to Signal Company, 42nd Infantry Division.
Amanda Gundrum of Watervliet advanced to second lieutenant while on duty with 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team.
Micah Weaver of Hillsdale was promoted to second lieutenant while serving with Battery A, 1st Battalion, 258th Field Artillery.
Thomas Myers of Schodack advanced to sergeant first class while serving with 2nd Civil Support Team (Weapons of Mass Destruction).
Kristin Northrup of Glenville was promoted to staff sergeant while serving with 2nd Civil Support Team (Weapons of Mass Destruction).
