Powalyk, Jean R.
TROY — Jean R. Powalyk, 90, of Troy passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 16, 2018, while at the Van Rensselaer Manor. Born on June 19, 1928, she was the daughter of George and Alice Dehler.
Jean resided in Troy her whole life. She enjoyed crocheting many warm blankets, spending family time at their camp on Reichards Lake, going to Saratoga Raceways for a night at the horses, and just about everything with Mike, her devoted husband who predeceased her.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. In addition to raising her family, she worked many years for Montgomery Wards and various other occupations from the Watervliet Arsenal Post Exchange, American Cancer Society and, because of her love of baking, many local bakeries. She was also a member of the Troy Columbiettes #176 for many years.
She was the loving mother of David (Lauri) Powalyk and Theresa (James) Corey. Beloved grandmother to Jessica (Michael) Labello, David Michael and Brittany Powalyk and Christopher and Ryan Corey and two great-grandchildren, Jordan and Aria Labello. She was also survived by her sister, Alice Tompkins and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, Troy. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
Family and friends are invited and may call on Thursday morning from 8:30 – 10:30 a.m. at the Wm. Leahy Funeral Home 336 3rd St. Troy.
The family would like to thank our extended loving and caring family of staff at the Van Rensselaer Manor A-1 Unit. They provided devoted unlimited support to our mom.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Van Rensselaer Manor Activities Fund, 85 Bloomingrove Drive, Troy, NY 12180.
