Phelan’s goals lead Schoharie

Indians use the scores to get past Northville in the WAC matchup

Maddie Phelan scored two goals to spark Schoharie to a 4-1 win over Northville in a Western Athletic Conference girls’ soccer game in Schoharie.

Mackenzie Barton scored off a nice cross from Katie Krohn 17 minutes into the game to give Schoharie the lead for good. Barton’s goal came minutes after Kerrigan Groff scored off a scramble in front of the net for Northville’s goal.

Meghan Krohn added to the lead when she trapped a cross from Phelan and sent the ball past Falcons keeper Emily Shephard.

Phelan capped the scoring with a penalty kick that resulted after Katie Krohn was tripped in the box on a breakaway.

Maddie Bland made four saves to earn the win in her first varsity start.

Schoharie (4-2, 4-0) leads the WAC. more girls’ soccer: Alyssa Duval scored twice to help Fonda get past Galway, 4-0, in a WAC game. Stella Williams added a goal and an assist for the Braves. boys’ soccer: Mechanicvi­lle kept its perfect record intact and moved to 6-0 with a 3-0 victory over visiting Cambridge in a Wasaren League clash. Jeff Luce ripped a shot from 30 yards out to put the Red Raiders up 1-0. Chris Ciccarelli and Andrew Micare added the next two goals to put the decision in the win column for Mechanicvi­lle . ... Waterford and Greenwich played to a 1-1 Wasaren League tie. Hunter Guertin placed the ball over Greenwich keeper Sam Whiting with three minutes left in the first half to stake the Fordians to the lead. Charlie Gartner scored on a penalty kick 15 minutes into the second half to tie the game. Sam Whiting made 10 saves for Greenwich. Bobby Valigorsky made eight stops in net for Waterford . ... Queensbury shut out South Glens Falls, 2-0, in a Foothills Council contest. Peter Crawford and Brendan Duffy scored goals for the Spartans, who are 9-1 overall and 7-0 in league play.

Girls’ volleyball: Saratoga Catholic swept Waterford, 3-0, in a Wasaren League match. The Saints, who remained unbeaten and climbed to 6-0 overall and in league play with the victory, were led by Elise Brownell’s nine service points and 16 assists.
