GOP taps Zeilman to stay on as chair
Saratoga County Republicans return full slate of officers
The Saratoga County Republican Committee unanimously reelected Carl Zeilman as its party chairman on Tuesday night.
The 41-year-old Ballston resident was first elected as chair in February to fill the term of Steve Bulger, who left to become a regional administrator for the U.S.
Small Business Administration. Tuesday’s election secured for him his first full two-year term.
“It is truly humbling and a great honor to be chosen to lead one of the strongest Republican Committees in New York state,” Zeilman said. “We’ve seen success at every level in Saratoga County, and I’ll continue to work diligently to raise money, support our candidates and work towards victory in November. “
In addition to Zeilman’s election, the full slate of officers were returned to office by GOP committee members, including Vice Chair Roger Schiera, Treasurer Amy Knussman and Secretary Joann Shaver-kupferman.
Since being named chair, Zeilman has contained the committee spending and raised nearly $100,000, nominated a young slate of candidates and oversaw the primary victory of District Attorney Karen Heggen.
His goals include maintaining Republican dominance on the Board of Supervisors, in town leadership and re-electing incumbents Sheriff Michael Zurlo, County Clerk Craig Hayner and Coroner Susan Hayes Masa.
“Saratoga County continues to be the gem of the Capital Region.” Zeilman said. “We have the lowest tax rates in the area, with nine of 21 of Saratoga County municipalities having no local property tax; the county has one of the lowest unemployment rates at 3.8 percent; and our county was recently ranked as New York’s healthiest by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. These results are not by accident. They are a result of Republican Supervisors with strong principles that look out for the taxpayers of Saratoga County.”
