RPI starts sea­son with loss

En­gi­neers be­hind early in first game of home-and-home

The RPI men’s hockey team dropped its first game of the sea­son 6-1 against the Univer­sity of Mas­sachusetts on Fri­day night in Amherst, Mass.

The En­gi­neers (0-1) fell be­hind fast, giv­ing up four goals in the first pe­riod.

Af­ter trail­ing 2-0, Jakub Lacka put RPI on the board with as­sists from Kyle Hall­bauer and Ja­cob Hay­hurst.

The Min­ute­men would score two more goals in the 19th minute, putting them up 4-1. Umass added an­ther two in the sec­ond and the third.

Lin­den Mar­shall al­lowed five goals on 23 shots for the RPI and Owen Sa­vory stopped eight of nine shots he faced.

RPI and Umass play at 7 p.m. Satur­day at Hous­ton Field House.
