RPI starts season with loss
Engineers behind early in first game of home-and-home
The RPI men’s hockey team dropped its first game of the season 6-1 against the University of Massachusetts on Friday night in Amherst, Mass.
The Engineers (0-1) fell behind fast, giving up four goals in the first period.
After trailing 2-0, Jakub Lacka put RPI on the board with assists from Kyle Hallbauer and Jacob Hayhurst.
The Minutemen would score two more goals in the 19th minute, putting them up 4-1. Umass added anther two in the second and the third.
Linden Marshall allowed five goals on 23 shots for the RPI and Owen Savory stopped eight of nine shots he faced.
RPI and Umass play at 7 p.m. Saturday at Houston Field House.
