Offender gets prison for child sex abuse
GLOVERSVILLE — A registered sex offender was sentenced to 15 years in prison for sexually abusing an 8-year-old child he was babysitting.
Robert J. Velett, 44, of Gloversville was sentenced Friday for forcing the child to have sexual contact on Aug. 16 while Velett was babysitting, according to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office.
Velett had already been registered as a sex offender and was sentenced as a second child sexual assault felony offender.
Upon release from prison, Velett faces 20 years of post-release supervision and must register as a sex offender. As he approaches his release date, Velett will be evaluated for “civil confinement,” officials said.
