Mets-mariners talks involve Cano, closer

- — Wire reports

The Mets and Mariners are in close contact about a deal that would send second baseman Robinson Cano and closer Edwin Diaz from Seattle to Flushing.

According to SNY’S Andy Martino, a trade on the table would send the Mariners veterans Jay Bruce and pitcher Anthony Swarzak, along with prospects Jarred Kelenic, an outfielder, and pitcher Justin Dunn, plus infielder Jeff Mcneil, who debuted last season.

Cano is still owed $120 million through 2023, and there’s an expectation that the Mariners would need to absorb some of that salary to strike a deal. Cano also owns a full no-trade clause, which he’d need to waive. More MLB: The Angels have acquired infielder Tommy La stella from the Cubs for $100,000 or a player to be named.
