Man admits to thefts at Glenville gun store

Schenectad­y man latest to be convicted in October 2017 break-in

A Schenectad­y man has pleaded guilty to stealing a cache of guns from a Glenville firearms store and possessing, concealing and then transporti­ng them.

Federal authoritie­s say 24-year-old Christian Roman admitted that on the night of Oct. 22, 2017, he broke into Target Sports, a federally licensed firearms dealer on Saratoga Road in Glenville and, with the help of Jose Fontanez, stole dozens of guns including pistols, shotguns and rifles.

Along with accomplice­s, the two men then spent the next two days moving the stolen guns around Schenectad­y and Amsterdam, including homes, a self-storage unit and a motel. Roman also admitted that on Oct. 24, 2017, he, Fontanez and even more accomplice­s took the stolen guns to Rochester.

Roman faces up to 20 years in prison, a maximum fine of $500,000, and up to three years of post-imprisonme­nt supervised release at his sentencing,

scheduled for April 10 in Syracuse.

Fontanez, 36, of Schenectad­y, pleaded guilty earlier this year to stealing the guns and other related charges. He is scheduled to be sentenced on April 22.

Omar Dejesus, 31, of Amsterdam; Dalmary Morales, 37, of Schenectad­y; and Juan Saez, 35, of Rochester, all pleaded guilty earlier this year for their respective roles in stealing, transporti­ng and possessing the firearms. Dejesus is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 17. Morales and Saez are scheduled to be sentenced on April 22.

The case was investigat­ed by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, New York State Police and Glenville Police Department.
