Man admits to thefts at Glenville gun store
Schenectady man latest to be convicted in October 2017 break-in
A Schenectady man has pleaded guilty to stealing a cache of guns from a Glenville firearms store and possessing, concealing and then transporting them.
Federal authorities say 24-year-old Christian Roman admitted that on the night of Oct. 22, 2017, he broke into Target Sports, a federally licensed firearms dealer on Saratoga Road in Glenville and, with the help of Jose Fontanez, stole dozens of guns including pistols, shotguns and rifles.
Along with accomplices, the two men then spent the next two days moving the stolen guns around Schenectady and Amsterdam, including homes, a self-storage unit and a motel. Roman also admitted that on Oct. 24, 2017, he, Fontanez and even more accomplices took the stolen guns to Rochester.
Roman faces up to 20 years in prison, a maximum fine of $500,000, and up to three years of post-imprisonment supervised release at his sentencing,
scheduled for April 10 in Syracuse.
Fontanez, 36, of Schenectady, pleaded guilty earlier this year to stealing the guns and other related charges. He is scheduled to be sentenced on April 22.
Omar Dejesus, 31, of Amsterdam; Dalmary Morales, 37, of Schenectady; and Juan Saez, 35, of Rochester, all pleaded guilty earlier this year for their respective roles in stealing, transporting and possessing the firearms. Dejesus is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 17. Morales and Saez are scheduled to be sentenced on April 22.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, New York State Police and Glenville Police Department.
