Radford gets second upset of the season

Highlander­s add win over Texas to surprise win vs. Notre Dame

Carlik Jones made a spinning layup and a free throw with 24.5 seconds left, sending Radford to a 62-59 upset of No. 17 Texas on Friday night.

Devin Hutchison made one of two free throws with 11 seconds left before Texas’ Jase Febres missed a 3-pointer to tie and Radford rebounded to end the game.

It was the second big road win for Radford (61), which beat Notre Dame earlier this season. Michigan State 78, rutgers 69: Cassius Winston scored 22 points and Nick Ward added 20 to lead No. 9 Michigan State.

Wisconsin 72, Iowa 66: D’mitrik Trice scored 20 points, including a crucial 3 with 20 seconds left, and 22nd-ranked Wisconsin held off No. 14 Iowa in the Big Ten opener for both teams.

Buffalo 96, Milwaukee 77: Jeremy Harris scored 21 points, Nick Perkins added 20 with nine rebounds, and No. 21 Buffalo beat Milwaukee in the Basketball Hall of Fame Belfast Classic. Buffalo advanced to Saturday’s championsh­ip game in the Goliath bracket where it will meet San Francisco (7-0), a 76-58 winner over Stephen F. Austin.

Mississipp­i State 65, Dayton 58: Nick Weatherspo­on hit a pair of 3-pointers in the closing minutes, and No. 25 Mississipp­i State trailed most of the game before rallying for a victory over Dayton.
