Engineers hockey drops 4th straight

Late RPI rally falls short in conference battle against Yale

Justin Pearson tallied three points to lead Yale to a 4-2 win over RPI on Friday in a men’s hockey game at Ingalls Rink in New Haven, Conn.

The Engineers (4-10, 3-4) have dropped four straight and fell below .500 in ECAC play. Once again they struggled to generate shots on goal.

Pearson scored an evenstreng­th goal just 1:06 into the game to get the Bulldogs rolling.

Phil Kemp scored a power play goal five minutes later to extend the lead. Pearson assisted on the goal.

The Bulldogs (6-2-2, 5-2-1) outshot the Engineers, 13-3, in the first period.

Patrick Polino netted his fourth of the season 7:44 into the second period to pull RPI within a goal, but Pearson restored’s Yale two-goal margin less than two minutes later. Evan Smith scored for Yale and Brady Ferner for RPI in the third period.

Yale outshot RPI, 3516, in the game. Corbin Kaczperski made 14 saves to earn the win. Owen Savory made 31 stops in RPI’S net.
