$1,000 reward in Troy dog case
TROY - A $1,000 reward is being offered to help find the person or persons responsible for the abandonment of starving dog found early Tuesday.
“The individuals responsible for this despicable cruelty must be brought to justice,” The New York State Humane Association said in a press release Friday, as it offered the reward. “This level of intentional abuse, coupled with abandonment, could bring felony as well as misdemeanor charges.”
The dog, a mastiffhound mix, was found wandering near the Frear Park basketball courts around midnight Tuesday. He was not muddy or dirty but was skin and bones.
Police named the dog “Mccoy” after the Star Trek character Dr. Leonard “Bones” Mccoy.
He had no microchip or dog license tags to identify him, police said, but he is believed to be abandoned.
Mccoy was taken to a veterinarian. His prognosis for recovery is good.
As of Friday afternoon, police had not located the pet owner and ask anyone with information to call 518-270-4430. possession of a controlled substance outside its original container, a violation, police said.
Erchak also was charged with six counts of petit larceny, two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance and three counts of criminal possession of stolen property and was awaiting arraignment.
Patrol officers were able to identify owners of much of the property.
