Shenendeho­wa girls get victory

Almeida has 24 points to lead Lady Plainsmen past the Garnet Raiders

Catherine Almeida scored 24 points to help Shenendeho­wa roll past Suburban rival Colonie 67-45 on Friday in a girls’ basketball contest in Colonie.

Shenendeho­wa held a slim 20-19 lead at the end of the first quarter but outscored Colonie 39-22 over the next two periods to put away the game. The Plainsmen climbed to 11-2 and sit atop the Suburban’s Blue Division at 8-1.

Kyara Triblet scored 13 points to lead the Garnet Raiders, who dropped to 8-4 and 5-3 in league play.

More girls’ basketball: Shaker scored 30 points in the third quarter to break open its game against rival Guilderlan­d as the Blue Bison rolled to a 64-54 win in a Suburban Council contest. Sole Carrington scored 22 points to lead Shaker . ... Loudonvill­e Christian’s Genevieve Swanson scored her 1,000th career point in a 72-28 loss to host Greenwich in a nonleague game. Swanson finished with 14 points for the Eagles. Molly Brophy had 26 points to lead the Witches . ... Freshman Peyton Graber scored 40 points in Schalmont’s 53-42 victory over Voorheesvi­lle. Schalmont trailed 25-21 at halftime before outscoring the Blackbirds 22-5 in the third quarter to take control of the game.

Boys’ basketball: Latyce Faison scored 22 points to spark Troy to a 90-73 win over Schenectad­y in a Suburban Council matchup of former Big 10 rivals. Jadon Cummings scored 10 of his 11 points in the first half as Troy built a 48-33 lead by halftime. The Patriots trimmed the deficit to five in the third quarter, but Faison and Lateef Johnson both scored nine points in the third quarter to help the Flying Horses pull away for good. Johnson finished with 19 points. Jahsean Haggray led Schenectad­y with 16 points . ... Jake Reinisch nailed six 3s and scored 24 points to lead Shenendeho­wa to a 48-35 win over Colonie. The Plainsmen took control of the game with a 17-6 run in the second quarter . ... Junior Shane O’dell scored his 1,000th career point, finishing with 38, in a 73-49 Schalmont victory over Voorheesvi­lle . ... Hudson kept pace in the Patroon Conference with a 77-71 win over Cairo-durham. Dayquan Griffin (32) and Lavon Fernandez combined for 63 points for the Bluehawks. Skiing: The Queensbury boys’ team and Mayfield girls’ team both took first place at the Johnstown Invitation­al at Lapland Lake. On the boys’ side, Queensbury finished with 12 points to take the top spot, followed by secondplac­e Lake George (30 points) and third-place Saratoga (36 points). Erik Schreiner of Hadley-luzerne had the best individual time of 23 minutes, 42.7 seconds to win the 10-kilometer race. Mayfield had 12 points to clinch first on the girls’ side. Shenendeho­wa was second (32 points) and Johnsburg (34 points) rounded out the top three. Mayfield’s Madison Relyea had the top time of 24:16 in the 7.5k race.

Boys’ swimming and diving: Bryce Henkel of Albany Academy qualified for the state championsh­ips in the 100-yard butterfly as the Cadets topped Canajohari­e-fort Plain 118-64. Henkel won the 100 butterfly in 52.02 seconds. He also won the 100 breaststro­ke.
