Von Tobel, Harriet
TROY — Harriet “Vonnie” Von Tobel, 96, of Troy, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2019, in Hospice care at Samaritan Hospital in Troy. Harriet previously resided in Georgia, Rhode Island, New York City and Connecticut.
Harriet was the daughter of the late Raymond G. and Flora Von Tobel. She retired in 1982 from Mcgraw - Edison Power Systems Division as secretary / sales correspondent in both their Albany and Hartford, Conn. offices. Previously, she worked at Automobile Mutual Insurance Company of America, G.P. Putnam’s Publishers, Union College and was traffic manager at WTRY radio station from 1948-1951.
For many years, Harriet was member of the Association of Research and Enlightenment (ARE) based in Virginia Beach. She served as the ARE editor of the Connecticut newsletter from 1980-1986 and participated in several of their study groups, the most recent one in Troy. Following her retirement, she was a devoted caregiver for Howard and Margret Stevens.
Harriet “Vonnie” was a wonderful woman who is survived by an extended family of close friends, Mary Jo Hogan of Troy, Judy Roehr and Ellie Matthews of Sand Lake, Dawn and Bernie Desroches of Latham, Ann and Rick Reis of Sand Lake and Emmy Davey of Troy; as well as AJ, Bridget, Violet and Audrina Colletti of Troy, and Kate Hogan,
y, g Tom Griswold and their daughter Olivia of Delmar. In addition, she is survived by a lifelong circle of loving friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to come celebrate Harriet’s life on Monday, January 14, 2019, from 1-2 p.m. at The Wm. Leahy Funeral Home, 336 Third St., Troy.
In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to the Community Hospice in Vonnie’s memory. The Officers, Members and Apprentices of Sheet Metal Workers’ Local Union #83 grieve the passing of our Brother, John A. “Jack” White, who passed away on Monday, January 7, 2019.
