Christine Myers breaks her own Saint Rose indoor track record in the 5,000.

Guilderlan­d High grad sets school record in the 5,000; also wins 3,000

Christine Myers had a big meet for the College of Saint Rose women’s indoor track team at the Northeast-10 Conference Championsh­ips on Saturday and Sunday in Northampto­n, Mass.

Myers, a junior from Altamont and a Guilderlan­d High School graduate, bettered her school record when she captured the 5,000 meter run on Saturday in 17 minutes, 42.93 seconds. On Sunday, she finished first in the 3,000 with a time of 10:18.55.

The only other winner for the Golden Knights was junior Valerie Hines of Kingston in the weight throw. The duo helped St. Rose finish fifth out of 11 teams, its best finish in 14 years.

The Golden Knights also got two good finishes in relays — the distance medley (third, 12:32.79) and the 3,200 (fourth, 9:52.37). Juniors Shannen Kerin of Colonie (Colonie High) and Lauren Rabideau of Burnt Hills (Burnt Hills-ballston Lake High) were members of both teams.

Stonehill captured the women’s title and Southern Connecticu­t took the men’s title.

Big effort for Forman

Siena senior Sarah Forman captured the 3,000 at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Indoor Track Championsh­ips on Sunday at The Armory in New York City. Her time was 9:48.72. It was her third career MAAC title and her second crown in the 3,000. Junior Carolyn Pellegrini of Loudonvill­e (Colonie High) was 12th (10:16.61). Pellegrini was also 11th in the 5,000 (17:54.32). Forman and sophomore Monica Strain of Castleton (Maple Hill) were part of the DMR which finished sixth (12:31.78). The Saints women finished seventh.

The Siena men finished fifth and got a 10th-place finish in the 5,000 by Aiden Canavan of Niskayuna (Niskayuna High) with a time of 15:23.10 and an 11th-place finish in the mile by senior Daniel Medici of Watervliet (Shaker High) in 4:23.19. Senior Luciano Fiore of Bay Shore finished second in the 800 (1:52.91) and junior Evans Kibet of Kenya was runner-up in the mile (4:11.76) to lead the Saints.

Eckhardt wraps it up

Senior Elizabeth Eckhardt ended her stellar four-year career with the RPI women’s basketball team by scoring a game-high 18 points in a 67-46 Liberty League victory over Clarkson on Saturday in Troy. The Engineers finished 12-13 overall and 7-11 in league play. Eckhardt, from Albany and a Guilderlan­d High graduate, finished the season averaging 11.8 points and hit 61 of 183 from 3-point range (33.3 percent). She played in 98 games with 78 starts in her career and finished with 1,093 points and hit 193 of 592 shots (32.6 percent) from beyond the arc. Sophomore Tanner Travis of Glenmont (Bethlehem High) and freshman Emily Vallee of Greenwich (Schuylervi­lle High) were key reserves.

Nice homecoming for Canty

The Hudson Valley men’s basketball team turned back Columbiagr­eene 81-75 last Wednesday in Hudson and Vikings’ sophomore Caleb Canty, a Hudson High graduate, celebrated going home by scoring 32 points. It was the fifth time that Canty has surpassed 30 points in a game this season. Freshman Willy Aybar of Albany (Colonie High), who has been solid since joining the team, had 12 points, all in the second half. Hudson Valley (20-6) saw its six-game winning streak come to an end in an 84-64 loss to No. 3-ranked Mohawk Valley on Saturday in Troy. Canty had 17 points in the loss. He is averaging 21.5 points per game. Aybar is averaging 12 points in nine games.

FMCC the best

The Fulton-montgomery men’s and women’s bowling teams captured their first Mountain Valley Conference titles on Saturday at Hilltop Bowl in Troy. The Raiders’ men defeated Hudson Valley and were led by sophomore Bryan Green of Scotia (Scotia-glenville High), who had 257 high single and a 696 triple, and freshmen Ethan Hadcock (225-642) and Andrew Sitterly (208-612), both from Johnstown and Johnstown High. The women, who bested Schenectad­y CCC, were led by sophomore Makayla Williams of Esperance (Schoharie Central) with a 580 triple aided by a 202 single.

Milestone for Felder

Raheem Felder (Lansingbur­gh High) scored his 1,000th career point in Schenectad­y County Community College’s 101-61 victory over Clinton Community College last Wednesday. Felder finished the night with 19 points in the game and 1,011 career points.
