Griffin’s 3-pointer wins it for Schoharie
Junior’s only basket of game stuns Stillwater; Helmstadt scores 18
Schoharie’s 53-51 Class C win against Stillwater on Tuesday included a 3-pointer with eight seconds left from junior Fletcher Griffin, his only basket of the game. It erased a one-point deficit. Schoharie was led by 18 points from Shane Helmstadt, while Stillwater’s Brian Mcneil had a game-high 20 points in the loss.
The matchup pitted the Nos. 8 (Schoharie) and 9-seeds, though it didn’t appear to be a close game early. Schoharie led 18-9 after the first quarter and took a 14-point lead to halftime (35-21). The Indians will play No. 1-seed Lake George at 5 p.m. on Friday at Hudson Valley Community College.

Trevon Gifford had 26 points and 10 rebounds in Mayfield’s 57-37 win over Greenwich. Girls’ basketball: Jodi Bartlett scored 15 points and Kaitlin Kramar and Emma Phelps combined for 20 to lead North Warren to a 61-44 win over Germantown in Class D action. Bartlett drained two of her four 3-pointers in the third quarter and Kramar sank two more as North Warren outscored Germantown 23-13 to blow open a tight game.
