12 sites cited in liquor sting

Probe tested over 80 alcohol sellers in Saratoga County

Employees at a dozen businesses were cited for selling alcohol to someone under the age of 21 during a compliance operation Friday and Saturday throughout Saratoga County.

The operation was conducted by sheriff’s office and state Liquor Authority investigat­ors. The goal was to check for proper identifica­tion procedures and curb underage drinking and the ability for those persons under 21 years of age to buy alcoholic beverages.

More than 80 retail sales stores (gas stations, liquor stores, bars) were checked. These 12 locations and their employee(s) were cited under the state Alcoholic Beverage Control Law:

■ City Sports Grille (Spare Time bowling alley), Route 9, Halfmoon

■ Speedway, 100 Commerce Drive, Clifton Park

■ Speedway, 229 Church Ave., Ballston

■ The Whitehouse Restaurant and Bar, 95 Milton Ave., Ballston Spa

■ Post Time Wine and Spirits, 170 South Broadway, Saratoga Springs

■ Red Cap Mobile, 177 South Broadway, Saratoga Springs

■ Humbuggs, 569 Gansevoort Road, Moreau

■ Friendly Spirits, Wines & Liquors, 1346 Route 9, Moreau

■ Tim’s Discount Liquors, 139 Route 9, Moreau

■ Jones & 50 Wine and Spirits, 4208 Route 50, Wilton

■ Stewart’s Shops, 43 Bluebird Road, Moreau

■ Gulf gas station, 10 Round Lake Road, Malta

All 12 employees were issued appearance tickets for the local court. The establishm­ents will face violations, sanctions, and fines by the Liquor Authority, sheriff’s officials said. Underage volunteers assisted in the operation.
