Here are upcoming local events celebrating of Black History Month:
Several to be honored
Over a dozen residents will be honored by Common Council members at a free event, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Rotunda of City Hall in Albany.
It will be catered by Allie B’s Cozy Kitchen, a womanand black-owned soul food restaurant on Clinton Avenue. Nick Daniel Phipps performs jazz music.
Migrations examined
On Thursday, a discussion of Black Migrations is 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the County Office Building, 112 State St., Albany, presented by the Albany County Legislature’s Legislative Black Caucus.
It is also a chance to connect local businesses, artists and history. It will highlight local stories of African American family migrations and showcase food and artwork featured by local African American restaurant owners and artists who work with the African American Cultural Center.
Saratoga schedule
Daryl Davis will be the keynote speaker for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27 at the Presbyterian New England Congregational Church, according to MLK Saratoga. “Klan We Talk? A Black Man’s Influential Conversations with White Supremacists” will outline Davis’ exchanges and friendships with self-identified members of the Ku Klux Klan. Q&A with the audience included. (The program is rescheduled from Jan. 20-21 due to bad weather.)
■ The workshop, “Equity, Inclusion, and Understanding Implicit Bias,” will be held on 2 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, March 3, at the Saratoga Springs Public Library.
■ “Keep Moving Forward,” a COMMUNITY Celebration, Dinner and Dance with the Heavenly Echoes is 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, March 9, at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Saratoga Springs. Details of all events are posted on their website, Mlksaratoga.org.
