Cohoes hall a hit with comic

-

Conservative-leaning comedian Nick Di Paolo, who likes to say, “There are two types of people in the world: Politically correct people and people who are honest,” will bring his stand-up act to the Cohoes Music Hall on Saturday to shoot a TV special.

The performance is under the auspices of Saratoga Springs-based The Comedy Works, which has the exclusive contract to book comedy at the Music Hall.

Taping the special there has been in the works since March 2017, when Di Paolo first performed at the historic venue. Immediately after that show, Di Paolo told Comedy Works owner Tommy Nicchi how much he liked the hall.

“I’ve performed all over the country, all over the world actually, and that building has as much character and is as fun to play as any I’ve ever done,” Di Paolo said in a statement accompanying the announcement of Saturday’s show.

It will be Di Paolo’s fourth hourlong comedy special taped for TV, although a cable or streaming outlet to carry it has not been decided, Nicchi said.

“Over the years we’ve produced shows (there) with acts like Lisa Lampanelli, Gilbert Gottfried and Larry the Cable Guy,” Nicchi said Tuesday. “None of them even knew the building existed, but they all loved the feel of the room, and many times I heard post-show from comics that they’d like to film there. Nick is just the first to follow through.”

The special will be recorded with setup of six high-definition cameras and microphones to capture Di Paolo as well as the audience’s reaction, according to Nicchi. To his knowledge, the Di Paolo show will be the first stand-up act shot at a Capital Region venue for a TV special, Nicchi said.
