Man, 40, pleads guilty in 2018 Troy arson case
A 40-year-old man pleaded guilty Wednesday in Rensselaer County Court to setting fires in Lansingburgh the night of June 5, 2018, District Attorney Mary Pat Donnelly said.
Duane Miles of Seminole Street, Schaghticoke, will be sentenced on a felony count of second-degree arson to five years in prison and five years’ post-release supervision March 22 by County Court Judge Debra Young. The plea satisfied a 21-count indictment.
Miles was living at 502 Fifth Ave. in Lansingburgh when he set two fires in the neighborhood at 598 Fourth Ave. and at 671 Fourth Ave., police said. Investigators also found burn marks on other buildings and a broken window at St. Augustine’s Church.
“Both the Troy Police Department and the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control, Arson Unit worked tirelessly to build this case,” Donnelly said.
Miles will serve the arson sentence concurrently with an eight-year sentence and two years of post-release supervision on a drug charge, the district attorney’s office said.
