Five matches to watch

-

106 pounds, Division I

■ No. 1 Stevo Poulin (Shenendehowa) vs. No. 4 Rocco Camillaci (Hilton, Section IV): Poulin goes for second state title, starting with his semifinal against Camillaci.

160 pounds, Division I

■ No. 1 Cooper Kropman (Penfield, Section V) vs. Colden Dorfman (Shenendehowa): Dorfman went from barely in the tournament — getting a bid because of a Section II injury after the sectional finals — to now getting a chance against Kropman, who is 34-2. Times Union Center picks up on underdogs usually, and will no doubt be in his corner.

106 pounds, Division II

■ No. 2 Joe Sparacio (Bayport, Section XI) vs. No. 3 Caleb Svingala (Maple Hill): Svingala is finally in the semis after some tough breaks in seeding the past two years. The junior will face Sparacio, someone he hasn’t faced before. Caleb will be trying to likely join his older brother, Trent, in the Saturday night finals. Trent is vying for a shot at a third state title before heading to Columbia.

152 pounds, Division II

■ No. 1 Zack Lawrence (Duanesburg) vs. No. 4 Johnny Putney (East Aurora, Section VI): Lawrence has two top-four finishes but has never been in the finals. Section II’S all-time winningest wrestler will try to get there by facing Putney, who is 46-3 this season. Lawrence is 50-0 this season.

170 pounds, Division II

■ No. 1 Jacob Nolan (Saranac, Section VII) vs. No. 5 Ethan Cooper (Cobleskill): Cooper earned two nice wins in his first state appearance Friday. He’ll face Nolan in what should be a hearty tussle.
